The use of the various tools that Office has is becoming a trend today, especially if you want to do some work that requires entering numerical data. When we use the Microsoft Excel application, we can perform very complex mathematical calculations and this would help us save time. That is why we are going to show you how to add by categories in Excel.

How to ADD by CATEGORIES in Excel – It’s That Easy

It is possible that when performing mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction or multiplication we will not have problems. But when this process has to be carried out many times, our work can become very tedious.

To make our lives easier, Excel brings the option of inserting formulas that allows us to perform these calculations in a matter of seconds.

An example of this can be found when doing accounting and we must include numerical values and do mathematical calculations. Also those who are dedicated to commerce or students use this tool to make automatic calculations. So let’s see how to add by categories in Excel.

## How to add by categories in Excel

In this article we are going to show you in a very easy way 3 ways or way to carry out this operation without making it too complicated. Just remember that you must have your table with all the data that you want to add.

To use as an example a table that contains in a column the suppliers, another with the products, another with the quantity, price and subtotals.

As we are going to make a sum by categories we are going to also place the totals that we receive for each supplier. Suppose we receive from Sony, Samsung and LG , we want to know how much we receive for each product, which these electronics companies supply us.

Once our table is ready and with the data provided, we are going to make the sum of all the products that each electronic equipment supplier supplies us, and for this we are going to proceed with three different methods:

### First method to add by categories

The first thing we are going to do in this part is, for example, select under the Sony cell, so that the income that has been generated is reflected there. And we put the data manually, we write = SUMAR IF at this point a little window will open indicating the data that you must enter.

Then it asks you to enter the range, we continue writing = SUMARIF (B4: B47 these cells contain the providers. We continue with the criteria = SUMARIF (B4: B47; ”= SONY” this is to search, only the data that is contained in Sony Now we continue entering data and it follows the range, sum.

We continue = SUMARIF (B4: B47; ”= SONY”; F4: F47) these cells would represent the subtotals, then press the enter key. If you put the data correctly, in that cell the number that will be the total income you received from the Sony provider should appear. And you have already done a sum by categories using Excel.

### Second method for adding by categories

This method is very similar to the previous one, but it differs in that you are going to select with the mouse without having to write the data. To start, you go to the cell below Samsung, select and place the equal sum sign, = SUM will automatically appear. YES , you select it by double-clicking.

Then you go to the supplier column and select with the mouse pointer the first cell in our example would be B4. You leave pressed on that cell and you move to the last cell, that is, B47.

At the top, the cells you chose appear marked. Then you put ; ”= SAMSUNG”; and finally I select with the mouse the cells of the subtotal and press enter.

### Third method to add by category

In this last method, you just have to go to the fx function , make a clip and a small window will appear with the name search for a function. You must place Add.si, the function will appear and you make a clip on it. Another box appears where Range appears, you select a small box that is on the right side and make a clip.

It will take you to your table and you must indicate the supplier cells, that is, B4 to B47. You return and now you select the criteria and enter “= LG”. And finally, Range_ sum you go to the box next to it, select all the subtotal cells, do a clip and accept.
